When Should I Book My 4D Ultrasound?

Timing matters for 4D imaging. Here's the window most families get the clearest view of their baby's face.

The single biggest factor in getting a clear 4D ultrasound image is timing. Most studios, including Family Tree Oki, recommend booking between weeks 25 and 32 of pregnancy.

Before week 25, your baby simply doesn't have much fat under the skin yet, which can make facial features look less defined. After week 32 or so, your baby is larger and has less room to move, and their face may be pressed against the uterine wall, the placenta, or their own hands — any of which can obscure the view.

Inside that weeks 25–32 window, there's still room to move and enough development for detailed features to show clearly. If your schedule is unpredictable — which we understand is common for military families working around duty schedules and PCS timelines — booking on the earlier side of that window gives you flexibility for a second visit if needed.

A simple thing that can help image clarity on the day: staying well hydrated. We recommend drinking extra water starting a few days before your appointment, since amniotic fluid levels can affect how clearly your baby shows up on screen.

If you're not sure which week you're in or want help picking a date, reach out before booking — we're happy to help you find the right window.
