What is a 4D ultrasound, and how is it different from 2D?
A 2D ultrasound gives a flat, cross-section image of your baby, which is what most routine prenatal scans use. A 4D ultrasound adds motion to a 3D image, so you can see your baby's face, expressions, yawns, and stretches in real time, almost like a live video.
When is the best time to book a 4D ultrasound session?
Most families get their clearest, most photo-ready 4D images between weeks 25 and 32 of pregnancy, when there's plenty of room for baby to move and stretch, but not so late that their face gets tucked away and harder to see. The memory-making doesn't have to wait until then, though — many families start their keepsake journey with us as early as 12 weeks with a 2D session, then come back once or twice more as the pregnancy progresses, each visit becoming its own little photo memory before the big 4D session.
Do you work with military and SOFA-status families specifically?
Yes. Family Tree Oki was built for the military community in Okinawa — DoD civilians, active duty families, and other SOFA-status households. Our team is English-speaking, and we're used to schedules shaped by deployments, duty stations, and PCS timelines.
Can my partner, kids, or other family members come to the appointment?
Absolutely — bring your partner, children, and even close friends. Many of our families make it an outing. We want the whole family to be part of meeting your baby for the first time.
Is everything explained in English?
Yes, our team communicates in English throughout your visit, from scheduling to the scan itself, so you can focus on the experience rather than translation.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book directly through our online reservation system. Choose your preferred date and time, and you'll receive a confirmation. If you need help choosing the right week for a 4D scan, feel free to reach out first.
Does TRICARE cover elective 4D ultrasound sessions?
Elective, keepsake-style 4D ultrasound sessions like ours are generally considered non-diagnostic and are typically self-pay, similar to keepsake ultrasound studios in the U.S. Please confirm your specific plan's coverage with TRICARE directly, as policies can vary.
What should I bring or do before my appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing, and consider drinking extra water starting a few days before your visit — a well-hydrated uterus can help improve image clarity. Arrive a few minutes early to settle in.
